Based on the novel by Lillian Beckwith, the magical family drama tells the story of a lonely orphan (newcomer John Bell) whose life is transformed by an enchantress (Nielsen) and her husband (Quinn) on a remote island.
The film is produced by Tina Pehme and Kim Roberts of Canada's Sepia Films and James Flynn of Ireland's Octagon Films. Backers include Telefilm Canada, The Irish Film Board, Seville Pictures, the Corus Family Feature, Shaw Rocket and Harold Greenberg Funds. The film will be distributed in Canada by Seville Pictures. Seville International is handling sales at Cannes.
