Filmax announced yesterday that it has signed a deal with Wide Pictures to distribute its titles in Spain over the next two years, including the closing film at Cannes, Barry Levinson's What Just Happened, starring Robert De Niro and Sean Penn.
The deal was signed by Filmax president, Julio Fernandez and the president of Wide Pictures, Luis De Val, former head of Manga Films.
Fernandez was delighted with the agreement saying 'Luis De Val and I have known each other for many years, and with this agreement I am convinced it will bring us lots of success in the future, not just from the films, but from the synergie and professionalism of the two companies.'
Luis De Val adds: 'It has been a decision that we have given much thought, and now it is signed. It was fundamental that to achieve success we place the films in the hands of the best company, and that is without doubt, Filmax.'
Rafael Cabrera, managing director of marketing and communications at Filmax confirmed to Screen: 'The deal will include cinema and DVD release of Wide Pictures' films.'
Aside from Two Lovers and What Just Happened', Wide Pictures' collection also includes 3:10 To Yuma, starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, which will be the first film to get a release in July, John Hillcoat's The Road, starring Viggo Mortensen, and Dennis Lee's Fireflies In The Garden starring Julia Roberts.
