Japanese seller Toei has closed a slate of deals including Flavour Of Happiness to Zootrope Films for France and Emphasis for Hong Kong.
The film stars Tatsuya Fuji (Bright Future) as an aging Chinese chef and Miki Nakatani (Memories of Matsuko) as the office lady who frequents his small restaurant and eventually becomes his apprentice.
The heartwarming drama, which travels into China and the old chef's past, is directed by Mirsuhiro Mihara (Photo Album Of The Village).
Also, J-horror Orochi sold to CM Entertainment for Korea, Longshang for Taiwan, and Emphasis for Hong Kong.
Directed Norio Tsuruta (Ring 0: Birthday, Premotion), the film is based on two episodes of the original manga by the so-called master of mystery/horror comics Kazuo Umezu, in which two sisters' obsession with their beauty and heritage lead them to horrifying tragedy.
The film stars Yoshino Kimura, who also appears in the Cannes opener Blindness. The screenplay and music were done by former Ring alumni Hiroshi Takahashi and Kenji Kawai, respectively.
Japanese box-office hit, police action film Partners: The Movie sold to Edko for Hong Kong. Based on a hugely popular TV series called Aibou (meaning buddy or partner), the film follows two police detectives as they track down a murderer who wants to sabotage a marathon. The film is directed by Seiji Izumi, who also directed the TV series.
Toei has also sold Takashi Miike's GodPuzzle to Taiwan's AVZ. Miike describes his work saying, 'The firsthalf is a school love comedy and the second is a panic movie.'
