The film has sold in Cannes to the UK (Network), Italy (Ripley's Film), Australia/New Zealand (Vendetta) and Brazil (Imovision). As previously reported, Sophie Dulac Distribution pre-bought French rights.
The Chile/Brazil co-production is about a serial killer in 1978 Santiago who loves disco. Tony Manero marks the second feature Larrain has done with Chile-based production company Fabula, the first was Fuga.
Peter Danner, managing director of Funny Balloons said: 'The Cannes screening of Tony Manero has triggered substantial interest after its world premiere. The story is a powerful and radical vision about one man's obsession during a time of social and political repression. This powerful story definitely leaves the theatre with you and we hope to announce further territory sales shortly.'
Tony Manero was written by director Larrain with lead actor Alfredo Castro and Mateo Iribarren (co-writer). Pablo's brother, Juan de Dios Larrain, produced for Fabula.
