The film is currently shooting in Ireland and stars Farrell as a fisherman who catches a woman from the sea whom his daughter believes is a mermaid. However, as with all fairytales, enchantment and darkness often go hand-in-hand.
Bachleda plays the mysterious deep sea catch and newcomer Alison Barry plays Farrell's daughter. Christopher Doyle is serving as cinematographer. CAA represents North American rights.
Ben Browning of Wayfare Entertainment and James Flynn of Octagon Films are producing alongside Neil Jordan, while Wayfare's Michael Maher and Peter Rawlinson serve as executive producers with Ned Dowd. Wayfare Entertainment and the Irish Film Board financed the film.
'We feel we've found the perfect home for the film with Paramount Vantage and I'm pleased to be working with Colin Farrell again who brings tremendous depth to his characters,' Jordan said. 'Ondine is an insanely romantic love story that exists within the realms of a fantasy world that pushes through the boundaries of the real world.'
'We are excited to be embarking on this relationship with Neil and Wayfare Entertainment,' Paramount Vantage's senior vice president of international sales Alex Walton said. 'We are confident that the international marketplace will embrace this contemporary take on a timeless fairytale, and the vision of this world class team of film-makers.'
