All Cinemas in the Netherlands are to become digital by 2012, at a cost of $50.5m (€38m), it was announced today.
The Foundation for Digitising Dutch Cinema, the Dutch Film Distributors Assocation, and EYE Film Institute Netherlands have teamed up to ensure the conversion of all remaining screens in Holland into digital within two years. The project has received financial backing from the Netherlands Film Fund and the Dutch government.
The first digital projectors are expected to be installed in January 2011, with the complete transition expected to be in place by mid-2012.
Currently, only 201 out of 751 screens in The Netherlands have digital projection.
