Dimension 3 to hold fifth festival in May

Dimension 3 2011 will offer a series of conferences, workshops, keynote speakers, and exhibitions to explore the world of stereoscopic 3D and new images. There will be a specific focus on the perspectives and production tools for cinema, television, video games, communication, telecoms and applied visualization techniques.

“Dimension 3 Festival presents contents that were creating using a great variety of S3D technologies: in 2010, our Festival presented 60 international programmes from a dozen countries, a historical record for an event focusing on 3D images. The opening of S3D channels for TV broadcasts offers new perspectives for producers and directors whom we hope will submit many high-quality programs this year, once again,” said Nathalie Klimberg, manager of the festival.

For the first time, Dimension 3 will introduce 3Discovery, an area devoted to prosumers that demonstrates a vast range of applications in context. Discovery3 will also present the Young Talents’ Wall where graduates can meet employers and learn more about the industry.

“Dimension 3 reaffirms its ambition to offer a networking platform, by gathering together professionals who offer new tools, products or services and those who are looking for solutions or new practices in the field of images, from creation to visualization. Efforts should be made to avoid trivialization and give creation a prestigious image: content creators must be given a prominent place within this area”, explained Stephan Faudeux [pictured], the Forum’s general manager.

Creators and producers will also be given the opportunity to showcase their own work in the Festival’s international competition (now open for entries).

A jury of professionals will judge the competition in the categories of: feature films, special formats, advertisements/corporate films and visual identity, documentary, animation, TV fiction, short film and live acquisition.

Fourteen “Dimmy’s Awards” will be presented at the Festival’s award ceremony on May 24 to the winners of each category. There will also be five special prizes for S3D visual effects, 2D-to-3D conversion, jury’s favorite, stereographer’s prize, and the grand/Seine-Saint-Denis prize.

“Digital technologies give birth to many new codes of expression, and greatly enrich the potential of images. The writing opportunities offered by 3D technologies are incredible. The Festival’s 2011 edition aims, more than ever, at providing a showcase for contents with added creative or technological value; it also puts creators back under the spotlight of the image industry,” said Faudeux.

A “Mastering S3D, from filming to screening” session will take place just after the Festival from May 30 – June 3 to further explore the technological, artistic and financial aspects of stereoscopic 3D.
