UAE telecom service provider du strikes deal with On Demand Group to deliver first ever 3D content to VOD users in Middle East.
The first title in the deal will be summer 2010 hit StreetDance 3D, with further titles available depending on customer feedback.
Created in 2009, du’s VOD service is one of the Middle East’s biggest, and is co-managed by London-based VOD content aggregator On Demand Group, the subsidiary of software outfit SeaChange International.
“We are the first to introduce this to customers and we hope they will enjoy this new technology and watching movies in a new format,” said Farid Faraidooni, chief commercial officer, du.
Launched in 2007, telecom service provider du is 39.5% owned by the UAE Federal Government, 19.75% by Mubadala Development Company, 19.5% by Emirates Communications & Technology Company LLC and the remaining stake by public shareholders.
On Demand Group currently manages the on-demand businesses of service providers such as Virgin Media in the U.K., SFR Neuf in France, OTE in Greece and TTNET in Turkey. Its On Demand Deutschland joint venture specializes in services to German-speaking countries and currently supports Telekom Austria, Unity Media and Kabel Deutschland.
