Following the likes of Sundance and Tribeca, the Edinburgh International Film Festival will introduce an online element as part of this year’s festival.
EIFF is partnering with online VOD site Projector.tv, owned by Future Film Group, which will create a secure, branded EIFF platform. Selections from past festivals as well as this year’s programme will be available.
“Each year we look to do something new and different with the Festival, and this online partnership is just one example of how EIFF has developed this year.” said Hannah McGill, EIFF artistic director. “This is another great way for our fantastic films to reach a wider audience whilst still remaining part of the Festival.”
Kobi Prempeh, creative director of Projector.tv, added: “We are securing a strong range of titles in selection at this year’s Festival, that will only be exclusively available on our site for the duration of the Festival. Partnering with the Edinburgh Film Festival is a great way for both emerging and experienced film makers to directly engage with the growing online film community in a secure and commercial way.”
Projector.tv also sponsors EIFF’s Best New International Film Award.
The full slate of titles available has not yet been announced, but selections will include Morag McKinnon’s Donkeys; Alain Gsponer’s My Words, My Lies - My Love (Lila Lila); and Arvin Chen’s Au Revoir Taipei. Projector.tv said it will “charge a premium rate for EIFF 2010 films on the site (similar to the EIFF cinema ticket price).”
