New international filmmakers announced at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival.
GE and Cinelan have recruited more filmmakers for their Focus Forward short film project.
Coming on board to make three-minute non-fiction films about the human power of ideas and invention are: Lucy Walker (Waste Land) [pictured], Eddie Schmidt (Twist of Faith), Phil Cox (The Bengali Detective), Leslie Iwerks (The Pixar Story) and Stanley Nelson (Freedom Riders).
Cinelan has also issued an open invitation to filmmakers outside North America to join the initiative.
“We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to this program and are thrilled to be hearing from so many talented documentary filmmakers who want to be involved,” said Cinelan co-founder Karol Martesko-Fenster. “Focus Forward is a truly global initiative and we are encouraged that the universal appeal of its message ensures it will have a global face.”
These filmmakers join the previously reported participants such as Joe Berlinger, Alex Gibney, Steve James, Jessica Yu and Morgan Spurlock.
Cinelan’s Spurlock, Douglas Dicconson, and Damon Smith are attending this week’s Doha Tribeca Film Festival. Spurlock speaks in Doha on Oct 28. The team, also including Martesko-Fenster will also attend IDFA in November.
