Fast-growing online cinema platform MUBI has just completed a new round of financing to strengthen its balance sheet and has raised $2.4 million from individuals who’s been following the site’s progress.
The existing investors include Aydin Senkut, Georges Harik, Joel Peterson, Bart Decrem, Eduardo Costantini, and Jose Marin. The new round (led by Costantini) includes new investors Martin Varsavsky and Alec Oxenford.
The organisation, headquartered in London with offices in Palo Alto and Paris, has struck partnerships with (among others) Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Foundation and Sony Playstation.
MUBI has now closed 145 distribution deals globally and cleared rights to show more than 3,000 films.
This week, MUBI has passed the 1m registered users mark.
