India’s Reliance MediaWorks (RMW) is teaming up with California-based Digital Domain to launch visual effects studios in India and London.
The new facilities, which will cater to the global film, TV and commercials industries, will also offer 3D stereographic production services.
The India facility, which RMW will establish at its existing outsourcing centre in Mumbai, will deploy an additional team of 650 people for projects allied with Digital Domain. In the UK, Digital Domain will establish a visual effects team within RMW’s London-based studio.
RMW’s studios in both Mumbai and London will connect to Digital Domain’s LA-based facility through RMW’s fibre optic network.
The studios will be rolled out from August 2011 in phases.
Digital Domain recently completed visual effects work on Transformers: Dark Of The Moon and is currently working on Real Steel, Jack The Giant Killer and 47 Ronin.
Its parent company, Digital Domain Media Group, recently acquired 2D-to-3D conversion company In-Three, which entered into a partnership with RMW to establish a Mumbai facility in 2009. The deal between Digital Doman and RMW enables the US company to expand its visual effects and stereo 3D conversion services to existing and new clients around the world.
RMW, which acquired London-based iLabs UK in 2010, is also partnered with Russian World Studios (RWS) to outsource film restoration and image processing work, and with Japan’s Imagica to provide services to the Japanese market.
