Telefónica and Sony Pictures have reached a deal through for the Telefónica group’s video on demand platforms to offer in Latin America all new Sony Pictures film releases “over the next few years.” The deal also includes catalogue titles and TV series.
The Telefónica group operates new VoD platforms Telefónica and Terra.
The deal will cover forthcoming releases such as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Moneyball, The Smurfs, Men In Black III and The Amazing Spider-Man.
Multiscreen access will be offered via online TV, tablets, PCs, smartphones or game consoles.
This builds on agreements the companies already have in place in Spain, the Czech Republic and Germany.
Alfonso Pérez Soto, head of Content Corporate Unit at Telefónica Digital, said, “this agreement will strengthen the partnership between Telefónica and Sony Pictures to develop access services to audiovisual content on demand. Both companies are working on innovative models to exploit their content catalogues to offer Telefónica users a unique experience.”
Robert Lanier, vice president, new media and pay TV, international distribution for Sony Pictures Television added, “We are excited to extend our already successful partnership with Telefónica into Latin America. Our high quality feature films and television series are on demand across platforms in Latin America and around the world.”
