HBO Documentary Films has acquired US broadcast rights to Sundance winner Smash His Camera.
Leon Gast’s film profiles the paparazzo Ron Galella and premiered in the US Documentary Competition in Park City, where it won the directing prize.
“We are thrilled to be with HBO as it is the premier home of award-winning documentaries,” producer Adam Schlesinger of Got the Shot Productions said
“From the first screening of Smash His Camera at Sundance, Sheila Nevins and Sara Bernstein’s enthusiasm for the film has been fantastic. We could not be happier.”
HBO negotiated the deal with Submarine’s Josh Braun on behalf of the producers. Braun is also in discussions with a number international sales agents to handle the film overseas.
