Elle Driver/Wild Bunch negotiated the deal for the opening night film with busy Submarine in the run-up to the EFM in Berlin next month. Separately, HBO Documentary Films has snapped up US television rights to Pussy Riot - A Punk Prayer.
Adeline Fontan Tessaur and Agnes Mentre of Elle Driver said of the Twenty Feet From Stardom deal: “We could not feel more strongly about how much we loved this film and how excited we are to show the stories of these incredible women to the world.”

We feel these stories need to be shared with audiences around the world so everyone can fall in love with these amazing singers and it will be exciting and look forward to collaborating with Elle Driver on the international launch.”
The Gil Friesen Productions tells the story of 12 backing singers who have worked with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Sting and Bette Midler.
Earlier in the festival RADiUS-TWC acquired North American rights and will launch the film theatrically later this year.
- HBO Documentary Films has acquired US television rights to Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin’s Friday night premiere Pussy Riot – A Punk Prayer.The film examines the story of the Russian feminist art collective whose brief protest performance last year against Vladimir Putin’s regime in Russia’s main cathedral led to their imprisonment and sparked international outrage. HBO negotiated with Goldcrest Films International.
