Warner Bros Pictures International senior executives reported on Wednesday night [12] that Man Of Steel opened on $1.7m to set the biggest opening day in the territory’s history.

The summer tentpole starring Henry Cavill and directed by Zack Snyder launched on 466 local screens and drew 347,626 admissions on Philippines Independence Day.

Studio sources said the superhero saga, which opens in North America this week, currently has more than 90% of local market share. The first-day local currency haul amounted to PHP 69.3m.

Man Of Steel is set to debut in 24 markets day-and-date with North America this weekend including the UK, South Korea and Mexico.

The second wave next week will encompass China, Germany, Russia, France, Italy and Spain. Senior executives said the eventual international screen count will exceed 21,000.
