Danish director Susanne Bier is returning to her homeland for her next project, provincial town drama, The Revenge (Haevnen).
The film is currently in pre-production and is due to be released next August.
The script has been written by the prolific director and scriptwriter Anders Thomas Jensen. He and Bier previously collaborated on Open Hearts,Brothersand After The Wedding. The film is being produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen and has a budget just under $5.9m (€4m).
The Revenge will tell a dramatic tale of love and justice among members of two families in a provincial Danish town set against the backdrop of globalisation. Some of the main characters have been formed by experiences of a refugee camp in Sudan.
The cast includes Trine Dyrholm, whose previous credits include Annette K Olsen’s Little Soldier, Ulrich Thomsen, who has starred in several international movies including Kingdom of Heaven, and top Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt who appeared in the Academy Award -nominated Everlasting Moments.
Bier’s last project was English language drama Things We Lost In The Fire, which she made in the US for Dreamworks.
