Filmmakers include Wang Tung, Arvin Chen, Yu-hang Ho and Kong Lingchen.
The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival unveiled the lineup of its Film and TV Project Promotion (FTPP). Projects of Taiwanese filmmakers Wang Tung, Arvin Chen (Au revoir Taipei), Malaysian Yu-hang Ho (At the end of Daybreak) and Chinese Kong Lingchen (City Monkey) are among the 25 selected projects
Filmmakers and producers of the 25 projects will meet with investors and producers during the three days from Nov 16 to Nov 18. FTPP will give out the premier prize of $$31,585 as well as six post-service awards provided by six post production companies from Taiwan.
There are 11 projects selected in FTPP including up-and-coming filmmakers Arvin Chen’s romantic comedy Nanjing East Road set in 1980s Taipei, Tom Shu-yu Lin’s (Winds of September) Starry Starry Night - a coming-of-age drama and Chi-jan Ho’s When a Wolf Falls in Love with a Sheep, a modern fantasy drama. Veteran filmmaker Wang Tung’s Once Upon a Time in Taiwan intends to tell an epic story about the growth and changes of a family in 60 years after emigrating from mainland China to Taiwan.
FTPP 2010 has also selected four mainland Chinese projects and two mainland China co-productions. Ksitigarbha by Wang Chuan will be a $3m animation about the clash between gangland fights and Tibetan Buddhism. Kong Lingchen’s Lost Hawaii will be a drama about exotic romance and self-redemption.
Camera by Singaporean James Leong intends to tell about an obsessed romance of a photographer. Illo, Illo by Singaporean Anthony Chen will examine the emotional ties between a Singaporean family and their maid from the Philippines. Malaysian Yu-hang Ho will explore the meaning of human kindness through the ghost story Wake Me up When You’re Dead.
The 2010 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival will be held from Nov 3 to Nov 20 with Taiwanese Juliet, a three-segmented love story by Chen Yu-hsun, Shen Ke-shang and Chi-jan Ho as the opening film and Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Cannes winning Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives as the closing film.
