Taiwanese drama You Are The Apple Of My Eye will open the summer edition of the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), which runs August 9-23 in Hong Kong.
The film, starring Ko Chen-tung, Ao-Chuan and Michelle Chen, will receive its international premiere at the Summer International Film Festival (SIFF).
The first feature directed by Taiwanese writer Giddens Ko, it follows a bittersweet romance between a cocky schoolboy and a model student. Giddens Ko and actor Ko Chen-Tung will be in Hong Kong for the opening.
SIFF will close with Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris, which was the opening film at Cannes this year.
The main section of the festival will include screenings of Kim Ki-duk’s Arirang and Hong Sang-soo’s The Day He Arrives, which also screened at Cannes, Lien Yi-chi’s Make-Up, Park Chan-wook’s Night Fishing and HKIFF-sponsored portmanteau Quattro Hong Kong 2, among other titles.
The festival will also screen Takashi Miike’s Ninja Kids!!!, tributes to Claude Chabrol and Japanese actress Takamine Hideko, and a Summer of Laughs programme, including Tsukamoto Renpei’s Wig and Cho Jin-mo’s The Suicide Forecast.
