Taiwan-based Double Edge Entertainment has acquired two music-themed Taiwanese films – Spin Kid and Gangster Rock – and also sealed two deals on concert film Mayday 3DNA.
Deltmac (HK) snapped up Hong Kong rights to Mayday 3DNA while Beijing Galloping Horse bought rights for mainland China. Shot entirely in 3D, the film features footage from a recent concert tour of Taiwanese rock band MayDay – one of the hottest Chinese-language bands – which is interweaved with three narrative stories that intersect at the end of the film.
The film is directed by Kung Wen-yen, Chang Rong-ji and Sean Kao and executive produced by Michael Tseng, Wolf Chen and Julia Hsieh.
Spin Kid, set in the world of the techno club scene, is directed by newcomer Joe C Lee and stars Blue Lan who appeared in the biggest local hit of Taiwan so far this year, Night Market Hero. The story revolves around the relationship between a cop and his son who becomes a popular DJ.
Action comedy Gangster Rock, starring Van Fan (Cape No. 7), is about a former gangster turned rock band manager who creates the hottest rock band in Taipei.
