Thai holiday resort Phuket will host its first ever international film festival this autumn, which will showcase around 30 films, including the international premieres of Oscar Aibar's Dance Machine and Panos Angelopoulos' A Hero in Rome.
The seven-day event (September 30 - October 6) is scheduled to be held at SF Cinemas' yet-to-open multiplex in the new upscale Jungceylon shopping complex on Patong Beach.
With a 'sanook' (Thai for fun) theme, a series of classic Thai films on loan from the National Film Archives will be screened outdoor by the beach in addition to cinema screenings.
The festival is expected to boast Phuket as a filming location through a networking session between Thai production services coordinators and festival guests. Phuket was not only a hot tourist destination but also a popular filming location for Hollywood films such as The Beach until the onslaught of the tsunami three years ago.
The event is privately funded with Thailand-based Scott Rosenberg of AMW International as festival organisers.
