Online movie venture The Auteurs, a global VOD platform that bills itself as “a virtual cinematheque,” has revealed details of traffic and activity on its site. Its “executive summary,” published this month, indicates that the platform now has 145,000 registered members.
Since its official launch, less than a year ago, 120,000 films have been watched through The Auteurs. Meanwhile, the site has received 1.5m unique visitors and has had 2.8m visits.
The Auteurs, in partnership with Celluloid Dreams, is currently acquiring online distribution rights for international arthouse films. It has signed deals with more than 30 rights-holders, giving it the rights to show more than 2000 films. Alongside its relationships with The Criterion Collection, Costa Films and Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Foundation, The Auteurs has struck alliances with such distributors as TrustNordisk, Intercinema, Zeitgeist Films, Mongrel Media, Hopscotch Films, Verve, Metrodome, Soda, Bac, Eureka/Masters of Cinema , Cinéaer and New Wave.
The company is becoming increasingly active in promoting international launches, theatrical and video releases. It aims to help market films within its community. Over one million followers of the site receive personal film recommendations via Facebook and Twitter every month.
In 2010, The Auteurs will be involved in online promotional campaigns for several films, among then A Prophet, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Classics in the US and Cine Qua Non in Japan, and Jack Goes Boating, in collaboration with Le Pacte in France and with Concorde in Germany.
