The 34th Ghent International Film Festival has given its grand prize for best film to The Counterfeiters by Stefan Ruzowitzky. The award comes with $28,421 (Euros 20,000) to support the film's release in at least five cinemas in Flanders and Brussels.
Kathleen Turner led the international jury, and she was also presented with the Joseph Plateau Lifetime Achievement Award. Other jury members were Balint Kenyeres, Maria Kopf, Peter Van Den Begin, Stephen Woolley, Alex Heffes and Adam Norden.
The Georges Delerue Prize for Best Music went to You, The Living by Roy Andersson. That comes with distribution support of $14,210 (Euros 10,000).
The SABAM Prize for Best Script went to The Savages by Tamara Jenkins, with $14,210 (Euros 10,000).
Saverio Constanzo, director of In Memoria di me, won the Robert Wise Award for Best Director.
The jury gave a special mention to the main actor and actress of The Band's Visit.
The Prix UIP Ghent 2007 (with Euros 2,000) went to Hanro Smitsman's short Raak.
