Fatih Akin's The Edge Of Heaven (Auf Der Anderen Seite), which had its world premiere in this year's official competition in Cannes, has been selected as Germany's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 80th Academy Awards.
Akin's film had its North American premiere last week in Toronto and has been sold by sales agent The Match Factory to over 30 territories so far, including France, Italy, Spain, Russia, the UK, Japan, Korea, Australia, Brazil and Canada.
Akin expressed himself 'extremely happy' about the jury's decision. 'What luck that Tom Tykwer filmed Perfume in English,' Akin observed.
The Edge Of Heaven, which won the prize for best screenplay and the Ecumenical Jury prize in Cannes, is being released theatrically in Germany this Thursday (Sept 20) by Pandora Filmverleih.
