Seoul-based producer and sales agent Mirovision has closed a slew of deals on Im Sang-soo’s The Housemaid, including the sale of Italian rights to Fandango and Australian rights to Madman Entertainment.
The film was pre-sold before the market to Pretty Pictures for France. Mirovision has also closed deals for Greece (AMA Film), Hong Kong (Edko Films), Singapore (Festive Films) and Thailand (M Pictures).
In addition, Mirovision has sold KT Kwak’s 3D action drama The Battle Of Yellow Sea, which it picked up on the eve of the market, to Showbox for the UK. Based on the true story of a stand-off between the North and South Korean navies during the 2002 World Cup, the film is currently in pre-production.
The Housemaid, a remake of a 1960s classic erotic thriller, racked up 830,000 admissions over its four-day opening weekend in Korea (May 13-16), which makes it the biggest opener for a local film so far this year. Produced by Mirovision, the film stars Jeon Do-yeon as a housemaid who wreaks havoc on an upper-class family.
