Jira Maligool's The Tin Mine swept the Suphannahongsaawards last night (Jan 4), scooping six awards including best film, bestdirector and best supporting actor.

The coming-of-age dramais Thailand's entry for the Oscar.Executive producers VisutePoolvoralaks from GMM Tai Hub and MingmongkolSonakul from Dedicate were on hand to receive the best filmaward, as was Maligool who was awarded best director.The picture also bagged the awards for best art direction, costume design andsound.

Tocommemorate the first anniversary of the tsunami disaster, this year's awardsceremony was held outside of Bangkok for the first time.Organizers Federation of National Film Association of Thailand brought theevent to southern Phannga province where touristdestinations Khao Lak andnearby Phuket were some of the hardest hit areas fromthe tsunami.

Beautiful, Wonderful, Perfect walked away with bothbest actress award for Nawarat Techaratanaprasert andbest supporting actress award for Satida Kaewchaoom. The comedydrama also received best original song.

Chatchai Plengpanichpicked upthe best actor award for his performance in horror Necromancer, which also received nods for best visual effects andmake-up.

Alife-time achievement award was presented to Prince ChatrichalermYuko who is now filming Naresuan, the follow-up to his 2001 historicalepic The Legend of Suriyothai.

Actionfilm Tom Yum Goongwon a special award for 2005 top grossing local film while the film's director Prachya Pinkaew was given aspecial award for gaining international recognition.
