Hong Kong 's Media Asia Distribution has sold Peter Ho-sun Chan's The Warlords, starring Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro, to KSM in Germany and ARP in France.
The big-budget historical epic was the top-grossing local film at the Chinese box office last year, grossing around $29m (RMB200m). Metrodome previously acquired all UK rights.
Media Asia is jointly selling the film with Hong Kong-based Arm Distribution and is screening a re-edited version aimed at non-Asian markets here at Cannes.
Among other deals, Media Asia has sold Dante Lam's The Sniper to BHD for Vietnam and Mediasoft for South Korea. The action title, starring Richie Jen, Huang Xiaoming and Edison Chen, follows a police sniper who takes revenge by switching over to the other side of the law.
BHD also snapped up drama Lady Cop & Papa Crook, starring Eason Chan and Hong Kong diva Sammi Cheng in her first role since Stanley Kwan's 2005 Everlasting Regret. Malaysia 's Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) also bought Lady Cop, which is directed by Infernal Affairs co-director and scripter Alan Mak and Felix Chong.
GSC also acquired action thriller The Assassins, directed by Soi Cheang and starring Louis Koo and Richie Jen.
