Mark Landsman’s Thunder Soul was named Hot Docs Audience Award winner as the event came to a close.
The top ten audience favourites after Thunder Soul were:
A Drummer’s Dreamby John Walker; My Life With Carols by German Berger; Autumn Gold by Jan Tenhaven;
Leave Them Laughing by John Zaritsky; Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage by Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen; Listen To This by Juan Baquero; A Small Act by Jennifer Arnold; Waste Land by Lucy Walker; and Marwencol by Jeff Malmberg.
Hot Docs ran form April 29-May 9 and organizers claim it was the most successful, as the number of attendees reached 136,000.
There were 275 public screenings of more than 170 films on ten screens across Toronto.
“This was by far our most successful Hot Docs to date,” executive director Chris McDonald said. “Our job is to source the best documentaries in the world, then pack local cinemas with eager film fans. We’ve accomplished both of these goals again this year, and, in the process, have seen larger audiences and more sold out screenings than ever before.”
