This year’s TIFFCOM contents market (October 23-25) will change venues from the Roppongi Hills complex to the Grand Pacific Le Daiba hotel in Odaiba, Tokyo.
Market organisers said the move was necessary due to restrictions in available space and difficulties in securing the venue for the following year. The new location will allow for a 20% increase in exhibition space, enabling the market to expand.
The new location will also have screening rooms and presentation rooms all on the same floor. One downside to the Roppongi Hills venue was the lack of screening facilities. Although the complex houses a multiplex, it’s usually busy with festival screenings and films on general release.
Organiser also said accommodation will be provided within the Grand Pacific Le Daiba for invited overseas guests. The hotel, which overlooks Tokyo Bay and the Rainbow Bridge, is a 20-minute drive from Haneda airport and a 70-minute drive from Narita airport.
The market, now entering its ninth edition, is hosted by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and UniJapan. It is held in conjunction with the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) which runs October 20-28 in Roppongi Hills.
