MichaelWinterbottom's Tristram Shandy - A Cock and Bull Story won the Golden Tulip for best film in theinternational competition at the 25th International Istanbul Film Festival onSaturday, as well as the International Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prize.
AnotherBritish film, Julian Fellowes' Separate Lies won the People's Choice audience award for mostpopular film in the competition.
The winner in the national competition this year was Reha Erdem's Timesand Winds, a contemplative look atlife in a remote Turkish village. It won both best Turkish film of the year andthe FIPRESCI prize.
Erdem'spicture has already been invited by several international festivals, after itssuccessful world premiere here.
Closebehind was Cagan Irmak's My Father and Son, a family melodrama with strong political undertones, which won theprizes for best actor (Fikret Kuskan) and best actress (Serif Sezer), as wellas the audience award for Turkish films. Irmak's picture is already a boxoffice hit in Turkey.
The festival, dedicated tofilms about art or adaptations of art works, had record attendance year, withover 140,000 admissions, a performance achieved mainly by a reduction of ticketprices for weekday matinees.
