Japanese studio Toei has sold big-budget war epic Admiral Yamamoto to France (Filmedia) and Russia and CIS (Cinema Prestige).
The film, directed by Izuru Narushima, has now sold to more than 60 international territories. It tells the story of the naval commander who launched the attack against Pearl Harbour in World War II.
Toei is also introducing a new title from Narushima - A Chair On The Plains, about three adults struggling with mid-life crisis and a traumatised child who embark on a trip to the last “Shangri-La” in Pakistan’s Hunza Valley.
Produced by Masato Hara (Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence) the drama was filmed in Japan and Pakistan.
Toei’s slate also includes action title Aibou: X-Day, a spin-off from the Partners TV series; suspense action Detective In The Bar, starring Yo Oizumi and Ryuhei Matsuda, and drama Angel Home, directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi (Memories Of Tomorrow).
