Veteran producer-turned-property developer Hsu Feng is making a return to the film business by establishing a Hong Kong-based company, Tomson International Entertainment Distribution, which will initially focus on theatrical distribution.
The new entity has been established as a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed Tomson Group, established by Hsu in the 1980s.
Tomson International Entertainment Distribution aims to be involved in film acquisition and distribution, international sales and also eventually move into development and aggregation, talent management and concert promotion.
Former Celestial Pictures and Fortune Star executive Yvonne Chuang has been appointed as senior vice president and general manager of Tomson International Entertainment Distribution, reporting to vice chairman Albert Tong.
She will attend this year’s American Film Market (AFM), buying films for Hong Kong and other Chinese-speaking territories.
A renowned actress in the 1970s and 1980s, Hsu produced films such as Chen Kaige’s Farewell To My Concubine and Yim Ho’s Red Dust during the 1990s. Over the past decade, the company has focused on property development and investment, mostly in Shanghai
