Spain'sTornasol Films is backing the second English-language foray of Spanish cultdirector Alex de la Iglesia, the UK-set Oxford Murders.
A serial killer thriller set against the esoteric world of mathematics at Oxford University,Murders will shoot with an international cast there next year.
AUK co-producer is in talks for the Euros 6m project, based on an award-winningnovel by Argentinean writer Guillermo Martinez, himself a former mathematicsstudent at Oxford.
Dela Iglesia announced the film at the European Film Festival of Seville (Nov4-12). He is a European Film Awards best director nominee for his latest blackcomedy Ferpect Crime and is currently working on the Oxford Murdersscript with his writing partner Jorge Guerricaechevarria. The director plans tomake a scouting visit to Oxford shortly.
Tornasoloptioned rights on the book more than a year ago. The prolific company is alsobehind another literary adaptation, The Education Of A Fairy, starringRicardo Darin and Irene Jacob.
Spanishsinger Bebe, fresh off a best new artist win at the Latin Grammy Awards, hasjust joined the cast of Education, directed by Jose Luis Cuerda (Butterfly).She will play the fairy of the title.
