China’s DMG Entertainment has announced that Wally Pfister’s Transcendence, starring Johnny Depp, will be released in China day-and-date with the US on April 18.

The film, which DMG co-produced with Alcon Entertainment, will be released in 3D, IMAX 3D and 2D formats across China. DMG arranged a pre-day-and-date China release over last year’s May Day holidays for Iron Man 3, which went on to gross $125m at the Chinese box office.

Depp is scheduled to visit Beijing on March 31 to promote the film. The star will be showcased along with Chinese actors, artists and musicians in a series of TV specials to be broadcast nationwide in the lead up to the film’s China release.
