Kim Mordaunt’s The Rocket [pictured] impressed Tribeca Film Festival judges last week and had a similar effect on audiences who gave it the narrative award on Saturday [27].

Linda Bloodworth Thomason’s The Bridegroom won the documentary award. Both films received a cash prize of $25,000 and screened on Sunday along with the other festival winners.

“Our audiences have chosen two films that testify to the power of the human spirit and hope for change,” said Tribeca Film Festival director of programming Genna Terranova.

“Whether it’s the fight for marriage equality in the U. or a boy struggling against all odds in war-torn Laos, audiences were clearly moved by these two inspiring stories.”

The 12th annual Tribeca Film Festival ran from Apr 17-28.
