Distributor TriPictures has closed Spanish rights to key US titles, including Oscar- winning director Paul Haggis’ new crime thriller The Next Three Days, starring Russell Crowe (pictured) and Liam Neeson.
The remake of French title Pour Elle stars Crowe as a man driven to desperate measure after his wife is convicted of murder. It is produced by Lionsgate and is currently shooting in Pittsburgh.
It has also acquired Neil Burger’s thriller Dark Fields, which stars Bradley Cooper as a New York writer who becomes a hunted man after taking a wonder pill to make him more intelligent. It is due to shoot next year. It acquired both films from Mandate International following last month’s American Film Market.
Meanwhile, TriPictures has also acquired UK director Michael Winterbottom’s $13m crime thriller, The Killer Inside Me, from Wild Bunch. Based on Jim Thompson’s novel, it tells the story of a Texas deputy sheriff who is slowly unmasked as psychotic killer. Starring Jessica Alba and Casey Affleck.
