Up to five animated films could be nominated in this season’s Oscar race after the Academy announced it had received 20 submissions.
Under Academy rules, a total of five nominations may ensue when there are more than 16 eligible submissions. However seven films have not yet had their qualifying run in Los Angeles.
The entries in alphabetical order are:
Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
Battle For Terra
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
The Dolphin – Story Of A Dreamer
Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs
The Missing Lynx
Ponyo (pictured)
The Princess And The Frog
Tinker Bell And The Lost Treasure
Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, The Dolphin – Story Of A Dreamer, Fantastic Mr Fox, Planet 51, The Princess And The Frog, The Secret Of Kells, and A Town Called Panic have not had their required Los Angeles qualifying run.
Films submitted in the animated category also may qualify for Oscars in other categories, including best picture, provided they meet the requirements for those categories.
The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be announced on February 2, 2010, ahead of the ceremony on March 7.
