UFO Moviez, the Indian digital cinema company, has partnered with the legendary Indian studio RK Films to release their popular classics like Bobby, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Prem Rog and Heena among others in digital wide screen format.
RK, founded by the late Raj Kapoor, is a 60-year-old production house and the first Indian company to release its classics on the digital platform.
Randhir Kapoor, son of Raj Kapoor said, 'We are constantly being approached by theatres with requests to screen our films. However, we possess these films in analogue prints, which have a limited shelf life and whose print quality deteriorates with the passage of time and with repeated screenings. We therefore thought it is appropriate to have them released in digital prints to preserve these much-loved films for eternity.'
RK plans to eventually make their entire library available digitally.
The RK Films catalogue boasts a number of classics and hit films including Shree 420, Awara and Jaagte Raho. Randhir Kapoor now runs the studio and plans are on to launch a new film by the end of the year.
UFO Moviez is part of Group Apollo and the digital cinema business was conceptualized and founded by Sanjay Gaikwad in mid-2005. Recently 3i, a leading investment fund, took a strategic stake in UFO.
