The UK Film Council will be investing a total of $35.4m (£18m) over the next two years in the English regions to help them boost their local film industries and open up access for the public to British film heritage.

This support comes from two sources of funding: $30.3m (£15.4m) from the Regional Investment Fund for England (RIFE), a mixture of National Lottery and grant-in-aid funding, and the $5.3m (£2.7m) Digital Archive Fund.

The RIFE money will help the nine English Regional Screen Agencies deliver on their objectives of developing film economies and culture in their region, including education and training, exhibition, locations support, production and development.

The Digital Archive Fund has been set up to increase public access to regional screen heritage. Most of the archive collections held in the regions are non-fiction.

The money seeks to ensure that access to screen heritage is provided to as many people as possible through screenings, festivals, on line and other platforms.
