The third Babelgum Online Film Festival has announced the winners of its Jury Awards, each coming with a $3,000 cash prize. British films led the pack, taking three out of four awards.
The winning films are:
Animation: Shadows & Dust by Jon Dunleavy (UK)
Narrative: Where the Monsters Go by Van Poynton (UK)
Non-narrative: Not with a Bang by Alessandro Amaducci (Italy)
Documentary: Families on Trial by Raj Yagnik (UK)
Juror Annie Sundberg said: “I was encouraged by the quality of the films and I’m happy to see the mission of the film festival more and more fulfilled. An online and mobile competition focused on seeking out and rewarding emerging filmmaking talent has been long overdue.”
Fellow juror Jason Wishnow added: “I was honestly captivated by the quality of films in competition, which were eclectic but all unique in style.”
Other jurors were Carlos Battilana, Jean-Pierre Bekolo, Richard Linklater, Sally Potter and Eric Watson.
The third-annual festival, which promotes international short films by emerging talents, shows work on the web and mobile platforms.
This year’s shortlist of filmmakers were geographically diverse, hailing from Taiwan, Ukraine, Italy, Spain, the UK, Romania, Argentina, Canada and the US.
