London based distributor High Fliers Films has acquired DVD distributor Scanbox Entertainment UK Ltd from Denmark-based parent company Scanbox A/S.
The move creates a sizeable catalogue and future release schedule that should benefit both companies,
Jeremy Rothwell, the managing director of High Fliers Films said ‘Scanbox has a very strong slate of Hollywood studio and independent releases, whilst High Fliers have access to UK programming that has consistently performed well in the Nordic territories, and now we are in a strong position to acquire the mutual rights for both territories whenever the opportunity arises’.
Scanbox’s catalogue includes more than 250 titles including The Fallen, Marco Polo, Fidel & Che, and Lost. It plans to release over 50 titles in 2009 consisting of previously acquired titles and new acquisitions.
The company, which has been rebranded as Scanbox Entertainment Limited, will operate from the High Fliers offices in London and will retain the distribution services of Technicolor.
In addition, Scanbox will take on sales of its existing catalogue and future releases following the termination of their sales agency arrangement with Media Sales at the end of February.
Steve Jackson, commercial director of Scanbox Entertainment Limited said ‘This move has been in the planning stages for many months, during which time we have seen significant changes in our industry. Companies that are being restructured to meet the new challenges are well positioned to strengthen their position in the future.’
