Niels Swinkels has been promoted to senior vice president, distribution, Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) for Universal Pictures International.
Swinkels, who was previously vice predient for sales and distribution EMEA, will continue to report to Duncan Clark, executive vice president, international distribution at the company. He takes over his new role immediately.
He will assume now responsibility for distribution strategies and activities surrounding all theatrical titles under the Universal banner across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He and his London-based EMEA team are working on the upcoming releases of Michael Mann’s Public Enemies, and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
Swinkels joined UPI Benelux in 1998 as marketing manager but left in 2000 to set up Independent Films Nederland. He returned to the company in April 2005 as international marketing director, based in London, but held a variety of roles before being moving into sales and distribution in 2006.
He began his entertainment career in the Netherlands at PolyGram Filmed Entertainment
