Jury praised Meier’s film for its “intelligent and original screenplay”.
Ursula Meier’s Sister (Sister – L’enfant d’en haut) has been selected as the Swiss entry for the Foreign Language Film Academy Award category.
The decision was made during the Delemont-Hollywood Week of Swiss Films in the town of Delsberg by a jury comprising director Elena Hazanov, director Christian Frei, Swiss Films’ Francine Bruecher, and producers Xavier Grin and Elena Pedrazolli.
The jury praised the film declaring that “the intelligent and original screenplay, the uncomplicated direction and the two charismatic young actors make this film into a work which touches a wide audience.”
The jury’s choice of Sister includes a 10,000 CHF (Swiss Francs) contribution towards the promotional campaign for the film in Los Angeles.
Meier’s second feature had its premiere in the Berlinale’s Competition last February where it won a Silver Bear. International sales are being handled by Memento Films International, and the US rights were acquired during the Berlinale by Adopt Films.
