The Reykjavik International Film Festival has appointed Giorgio Gosetti as programme director of its main section New Visions and general programme advisor for the festival.
Gossetti will also continue as the director of Venice Days (part of the Biennale). He is also a journalist, critic, author and events organiser. In 2006, he was a co-founder of the Rome Film Fest. He is also the founder of internet publications Tamtamcinema and Cineuropa.
He replaces Dimitri Eipides, who had to stop working for Reykjavik (where he had been artistic director since 2005) because of his increased duties at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival. He also programmes for Toronto and Montreal.
“We are very honoured to work with Giorgio Gosetti, one of the finest film programmers in the world and welcome him to an enthusiastic public awaiting his choices for the festival. We are also deeply indebted to the incomparable Dimitri Eipides who brought his superb programming skills to a fledgling festival and made it a great success, “ said Hronn Marinosdottir, director of RIFF.
RIFF has about 10 sections of its programme, presenting a total of about 100 features from 40 countries.
The eighth-annual festival runs in the Icelandic capital Sept 22-Oct 2.
