This year’s Venice International Film Festival will host a retrospective Italian Comedy – The State of Things (1937-1988).

Marco Giusti, Domenico Monetti and Luca Pallanch curated the programme, which will include about 30 films.

The retrospective is a co-production with the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale with the support of the Ministry for the Cultural Heritage and Activities.

Venice will also host some of the genre’s most popular actors, including Diego Abatantuono, Lino Banfi, Lando Buzzanca, Christian De Sica, Enrico Montesano, Renato Pozzetto, Gigi Proietti, Carlo Verdone and Paolo Villaggio.

Alessandro Gassman, Gianmarco and Ricky Tognazzi will present films by Vittorio Gassman and Ugo Tognazzi.

And other attendees in Venice will include Lorenza Indovina, Mario Monicelli, Marco Risi, Emanuele Salce, Franca Valeri, Carlo and Enrico Vanzina.

The more contemporary films will be shown in the Sala Perla and the older films will screen at the Sala Volpi in the Palazzo.

Films selected include Tutta la città canta, L’onorata società, Io non spezzo… rompo, Indagine su un cittadino al di sopra di ognisospetto; Loscatenato, Febbre da cavallo, Eccezzziunale… veramente and Vacanze di Natale.

Venice runs Sept 1-11.
