Pathe Pictures International and Vertigo Films will startprincipal photography May 8 for New York-set thriller WAZ. Tom Shankland, who previouslydirected Bafta-nominated shorts Bait and Going Down,makes his feature directorial debut.

Vertigo's James Richardsonand Allan Niblo are producing.

Stellan Skarsgard, Melissa George,Selma Blair and Ashley Walters star.

Clive Bradley wrote thescript about a veteran detective (Skarsgard) and hisrookie partner (George) who find themselves involvedin a string of gangland killings.

The project is shooting in Northern Ireland and New York.

"Vertigo is extremelyexcited to be making this terrifying film as our first American set projectwith such a creative team," said Richardson. "The film will be a welcome addition to our busy2006 production slate and to our UK release schedule in 2007. We are looking forward toworking with Pathe Pictures International onceagain."

WAZ is aVertigo Films, UK Film Council, Ingenious Film Partners and Northern IrelandFilm and Television Commission presentation of a Vertigo Films production.

Vertigo will distribute inthe UK and Pathe will handleworldwide sales.
