Film curation and streaming start-up Vyer Films has set the online premiere of Sion Sono’s film and struck an alliance with NYAFF operators Subway Cinema.
The announcement comes as the 2014 New York Asian Film Festival prepares to kick off on June 27 and run through July 14.
Himizu stars Fumi Nikaido, who will receive the inaugural Screen International Rising Star Award on July 9 at the festival.
Vyer will release Himizu on June 28 on its website. The story centres on a young woman who resolves to help a boy traumatised by the Fukushima earthquake and tsunami.
Nikaido can be seen in three films at NYAFF: Au Revoir L’été, My Man and Why Don’t You Play In Hell? For more information about NYAFF visit the official website.
