Chinese filmmakerWang Xiaoshuai will be shooting $1.25m drama Zuo You (literally Left And Right) as his 10th feature film, the Cannes-winningdirector announced at the Golden Rooster Baihua Film Festival in China's Hangzhou City today.

Beijing-basedDebo Film, producer of Wang's previous film ShanghaiDreams, will again be the main production and financing company of thefilm. The film's other co-producers are yet to be announced.

Zuo You will be a contemporary drama set in Beijing, involving two mid-aged couples. Confirmedcast members include Tian Yuan (Butterfly,Luxury Car), Cheng Taishen (JadeWarrior, The World) and TV actress Liu Weiwei. DeboFilm is in talks with Jiang Wen and Chen Daoming to play another couple.

Adapted from atrue story, the story of Zuo You isabout the relationship crisis and emotional unrest of two couples, when the sonof the divorced couple is found to have leukemia. In need of a bone marrowtransplant, the only way to save the teenage boy is for the divorced couple togive birth to another baby, which will jeopardize current relationships.

Shooting willstart in November in Beijing and is scheduled to wrap by the end of2006. Wang, known as thesixth-generation film-maker, won the Cannes jury prize in 2005 for ShanghaiDreams.
