Minister for Culture Barbara Follett has announced today that Josh Berger, President and MD of Warner Bros. Entertainment UK Ltd (WBEUK) has been appointed to the UK Film Council's board of directors.
Berger, who has been with Warner Bros Entertainment Inc. since 1989, has been WBEUK's President and MD since 2002, having also have managed the Spanish and Portuguese territories for Warner Bros prior to that.
He is now responsible for all of Warner Bros business activities in the UK and Ireland, being behind the recent successes such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Gran Torino, The Dark Knight, RocknRolla, Fringe and The Mentalist.
Stewart Till CBE, Chairman of the UK Film Council commented on Berger's appointment: 'I'm delighted to welcome Josh Berger onto the UK Film Council Board. His impressive experience with one of the industry's leading international studios makes him an invaluable addition. He will bring a wealth of knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of big-budget film production and worldwide distribution to the role that will strengthen our Board even further.'
Josh Berger responded: 'I'm honoured to be invited to join the Board and look forward to contributing to the excellent work that the UK Film Council undertakes to promote British filmmaking at home and abroad. The industry knows that 2009 is likely to be difficult for everybody but I'm confident that we will be able to weather any challenges that arise and continue to support Britain as an important filmmaking hub on the international scene.'
