The Weinstein Company is stirring up interest here on two titles new to the international marketplace as buyers mill around Toronto’s hotels and screening venues eager to fill slots in 2011 and beyond.
Sales head David Glasser is introducing Spy Kids 4 and the Marilyn Monroe project My Week With Marilyn starring Michelle Williams.
Williams will star alongside Kenneth Branagh and Judi Dench. The story revolves around a trip the starlet takes to London in 1956 to act in The Prince And The Showgirl opposite the celebrated British actor Laurence Olivier (played by Branagh).
When the lonely Monroe takes a liking to Olivier’s assistant a relationship evolves, however the young man finds his feelings compromised when the tyrannical Olivier uses him to keep the actress in line on set.
Dench will portray the production’s other female star, Sybil Thorndike. Simon Curtis has been lined up to direct from Adrian Hodges’ screenplay and David Parfitt is producing.
Glasser is also talking to buyers about Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World, the latest episode in Robert Rodriguez’s family adventure that will be in 3D and stars Jessica Alba.
The slate includes Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech starring Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, which received its official world premiere here last night, and David O Russell’s The Fighter with Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg.
Other commercial fare is also attracting buyer buzz. Exclusive Film Distribution sales head Alex Walton is targeting European acquisitions teams to close remaining territories on The Woman In Black and will seek to license Let Me Into available territories.
Inferno Entertainment’s sales team will aim to capitalise on last weekend’s thunderous Australian launch for Tomorrow When The War Began, while IM Global is driving ahead on its 3D action title Dreddand Barry Levinson’s zombie film The Bay
Affinity International has already used the. market to announce the casting of Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna opposite Will Ferrell on its Spanish-language comedy The House Of My Father.
